OS100: OpenStack Bootcamp I

Course Description

Students will be provided with a secure demo/test OpenStack environment for intense, hands-on access initially via GUI-based tools (e.g., Horizon) that leverage students’ existing knowledge, then via ssh and command-line interaction. We will cover everything: from architecture and component interaction, through configuration, tuning, operations and troubleshooting -- complete preparation for the real-world challenges faced by OpenStack users.

Day 1 Provides an OpenStack overview and introduction to its architecture. It covers: the project goals and use cases; basic operating and deployment principles; cloud usage patterns, with an OpenStack codebase overview; creating networks/tenants/roles; cloud networking; and OpenStack tuning and troubleshooting.

Day 2 Review of cloud storage, and moves into OpenStack Networking. It covers: practice of OpenStack operation on multiple nodes; Swift Object Storage use cases, architecture, capabilities, configuration, security and deployment; and a look ahead to the OpenStack roadmap.

Day 3 Review of Heat and Ceiliometer and moves into a comprehensive review of OpenStack. It covers: Metering and Orchestration labs and a Comprehensive hands on review that helps students prepare for OpenStack Certification.
